About the Cambridge ILEC exam
What is the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)?
The International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) is:
- an advanced examination (set at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which assesses language skills in a legal context.
- a Cambridge ESOL examination, produced and assessed in collaboration with TransLegal, Europe’s leading firm of lawyer-linguists.
- recognised by leading associations of lawyers including the European Company Lawyers Association, the European Law Students Association, the International Association of Young Lawyers, and the European Young Bar Association.
Why take the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)?
The International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) is for law students or practising lawyers who are:
- seeking employment in an international commercial law context,
- intending to study law where the course includes a significant English language content, either in their own country or abroad,
- seeking promotion within their own organisations,
- learning English as part of a training programme.
